Range session (new look)
Video: Rounds and range sessions (2 min)
In the new look, a range session has its own page. Open one from Rounds (on a phone, Sessions) and you land here. It answers two questions: how did each club go today, and is that normal for you?
In version 1, range sessions open inside Rounds instead. See Rounds.
The top of the page
On a computer, the row under the top bar reads Rounds / Range session, then chips and one line of facts: the date and times, how long you hit, the shot and club count, and your launch monitor. For example "Mon, Oct 5, 6:02 PM to 7:10 PM · 1h 8m · 60 shots, 5 clubs · Uneekor EYE Mini Lite". On the right are What do these mean?, Share and Options.
On a phone, ‹ Sessions takes you back. A head card holds the chips, the same line of facts, then Share, Options and What do these mean?.
The chips:
- Range, always.
- Live, while you are still hitting: the session is open and your last shot was in the last 30 minutes. The counts say "so far" and the newest shot is marked in gold.
- Left out of stats, when you left the session out.
- On a shared sim, the player's name ("Mike's range session" on a computer, a "Mike's session" chip on a phone).
If the shots reached GSCaddie all at once (for example after your sim PC came back online), the times are not real, so the page shows the date only and leaves out the length and Pace.
Bands
When you hit shots in a comparison during the session, a line above the cards says where they went, for example "12 shots from a comparison are in Compare ›". Those shots are not on this page and count in none of its numbers. The link opens that comparison, or Compare when the session's shots went into more than one. See Clubs.
Two bands can sit above the cards:
- Left out of your stats: the shots stay on this page, but the session counts nowhere else (not in Clubs, gapping, records, trends or your usual). Count it again puts it back, with an Undo in the message.
- Still playing: new shots show up as you hit them. Open Live takes you to Live for the replay.
Session by club
One line per club, longest carry first. The head says how many clubs and whether they are compared, for example "5 clubs, longest first, against your usual". The columns:
- Shots
- Avg carry: the average over the club's full swings. A full swing carried at least 70% of the club's long carry (worked out over today and your usual together), so a duffed 20 yd wedge does not drag your pitching wedge average down. The foot line counts the short shots left out ("3 short shots left out.").
- vs your usual: see below.
- Spread: about 2 of 3 shots carry within this many yards of the average. Needs 2 shots.
- Consistency: a score out of 100 from how much the carry varies, with its word: rock solid (85 and up), reliable (70 to 84), inconsistent (50 to 69), variable (30 to 49), wild (under 30). Needs 2 shots.
- Left/right and Width: where the club's shots finished on average ("3 R", "on line" within 1 yd), and how wide the group is. Width needs 2 shots.
- Shape: the club's most common shape and its share ("Fade 62%"), once it has 3 shots.
- Top ball speed
- Club speed and Smash, only when your launch monitor sends club speed. Ball-only sessions never see these columns.
- Last sessions, only when a club has it: a small line of the club's average carry in each of your recent sessions with 5 or more full swings (up to 6), then today in gold. The dashed line is your usual. Hover a dot for that session's carry, shots and difference from your usual.
Avg carry, Spread, Consistency, your usual, How the session went and Longest carry use Carry (raw) when your launch monitor sends it and it looks right, otherwise Carry (see distance and flight). Where they finished and the shot list show Carry, where the ball came down.
Clubs you hit once or twice sit below a faint line. Their cells that need more shots stay empty, not dashed.
Click (or tap) a club for its all-time page in Clubs.
Your usual
Your usual for a club is your full swings with that club in the 90 days before this session started, range and course together. Shots and sessions you left out of stats, and shots you hit in a comparison, do not count. It needs:
- 15 earlier full swings, from at least 2 sessions, and
- 5 full swings with the club today.
Because the window ends when the session started, an old session reads the same every time you open it.
Hover a club's row to see your usual's own numbers ("Your usual, 7 iron. 48 shots, 6 sessions": carry, spread, finish, width, and club speed and smash with club data). On a touch phone, tap the small i next to the club's words.
vs your usual
This column only has words when something differs. Say your 7 iron's usual carry is 147 and today's 22 full swings average 152: the cell reads "+5 yd". The words you can see:
- +5 yd or −4 yd (carry): named at 3 yd or more, and only when the difference is bigger than the wobble you would expect from that many shots.
- tighter (green) or wider (warm) for spread: today's spread is a quarter tighter, or a third wider, than your usual. Needs 10 full swings today.
- 4 yd further left or right: the average finish moved 3 yd or more, past the same wobble.
- narrower (green) or wider (warm) for width, on the same rule as spread.
- as usual (gray): compared, and nothing passed the rule.
Longer, shorter, left and right get no color. Without a target, none of them is better.
When a club is not compared, the cell says why:
- needs 5 shots: too few full swings today.
- no usual yet (3 of 15): you have 3 earlier full swings with that club, and a usual needs 15.
- first time: no earlier full swings with that club.
- looks like several clubs (106 to 223), in warm: see Not compared.
- usual too mixed: your earlier shots with that club vary too much to be one club.
Not compared
Some sims record a whole session under one club name, so one "driver" can hold wedges and woods. When a club's carries vary by about 14% or more (its consistency reads wild), today or in your usual, or too many of today's shots are short, the club is probably more than one club under one name, or a lot of mis-hits. It is not compared, and its average uses every swing. The fix is on the sim: pick the club before you hit, and each club gets its own numbers.
Gaps
A warm line under the table names a gap between two clubs you hit this session that sit close in your bag (next to each other, or one club apart like 7 iron and 9 iron), each with 3 or more shots, whose average carries are 15 yd or more apart and at least a quarter of the longer club's carry. For example: "Gap: 7 iron to 9 iron is 46 yd, wider than typical. A club that carries about 129 yd would close it."
The club bar
Under Session by club, Club and a row of chips: All, then each club with its shot count, most shots first (No club for shots with no club name). Picking a club:
- marks its row in Session by club in gold,
- zooms Where they finished to that club,
- puts that club in gold in How the session went,
- filters the shot list ("22 of 60 shots, 8 iron", with Show all).
Session by club, bests, shape and pace stay whole-session.
The page address keeps the club you picked, so Back from a shot, a reload, or a link you send opens the page on that club. A club the session does not have opens on All. On a phone, a link with a club opens the page scrolled to the club bar.
Where they finished
Your shots from above: how far each carried, and how far left or right of the target line it finished. A yard is the same size both ways. Short shots are faint. Hover a dot for its carry, finish, ball speed and launch; click it to open the shot.
- The gold ring holds about 2 of 3 of today's shots with a club (from 5 full swings).
- The dashed ring holds 2 of 3 of your usual.
Beside the plot (under it on a phone), with All picked and several clubs, Each club lists every club's carry, range, depth, width and center. Pick a club (there, or in the club bar) and the panel shows that club with three columns, Today, Usual and vs usual, for Carry, Carry range, Depth (carry spread), Width (left/right spread) and Center, plus club speed and smash with club data. The foot says what the usual is built from, for example "Your usual: 48 full swings in 6 sessions, the 90 days before this session." A session with one club shows that club straight away.
On a phone the plot is square and full width.
How the session went
Shown from 10 shots with a carry. Each dot is a shot's carry against that club's average today, in the order you hit them, with a strip underneath showing which club. Only clubs with 5 or more full swings that look like one club are plotted. Click a dot to open the shot.
Beside the chart (under it on a phone), the findings:
- Best 10 in a row: "Shots 31 to 40", the 10 in a row closest to their club averages. From 25 plotted shots.
- Start: "First 10 ±6.1" against the rest, or Took about 10 shots to settle when the first 10 spread at least half as much again as the rest, and 3 yd more. From 30 plotted shots.
- End: "Last 10 ±5.4" against before, or Tailed off at the end on the same rule, or when the last 10's ball speed was 2 mph or more under your averages for those clubs. From 30 plotted shots.
- Ball speed: Steady, Warming up or Cooling off. Each swing is read against its own club's average, so switching from wedges to driver does not count as warming up. Steady means it moved less than 0.2 mph a shot. Needs 6 swings.
If no club can be plotted, it says "Need a club that looks like one club".
Session bests, shape and pace
Session bests ("58 shots with numbers"):
- Top ball speed and Longest carry, each with the club and a link to the shot ("Driver, shot 58"). A carry the ball speed could not produce is skipped.
- Best smash, only with club data. A smash over 1.6 is a bad reading and is skipped.
- Tightest cluster: the club with the smallest carry spread, among clubs with 5 or more shots ("±4.2 yd, 8 iron, carry spread"). Under that it says "Needs 5 shots with one club".
Session shape (from 5 full swings): "Mostly fade 62%", a bar of all five shapes and each share. Shape comes from the ball's spin: straight under 10 degrees either way, draw or fade from there, hook or slice at 15 degrees and more.
Pace (from 2 shots, with real times): the length, then Shots per minute, Longest break ("4m 12s after shot 31") and Average time between shots. It counts the shots listed on this page.
Shots, newest first
Every shot in the session. On a computer the columns are #, Time (clock time, "7:27 PM"), Club, Carry, Vs avg, Shape (with a small flight drawing), Finish, Ball speed, Total, Launch and Spin.
- Vs avg is this shot's carry against that club's average on this page: "+4", "−6", "±0". When the average uses Carry (raw), the shot is compared on its Carry (raw) too, so Vs avg can differ from the Carry column. A club with one shot shows a dot.
- Finish is how far left or right of the target line the ball finished ("8 yd R", "on line").
On a phone each shot is two lines: number, club, carry, the flight drawing and Vs avg, then the time and the rest of the numbers. A shot with nothing reads "no numbers". Click or tap a shot for its replay and numbers in Shot detail. On a computer, right-click a shot to open it, change its club, leave it out of stats or delete it. Options you can't use on that row don't appear.
What do these mean?
Opens every word on the page, with every rule and number above, in six groups: Session by club, Your usual, Where they finished, How the session went, Bests, gap and pace, and Shots. On a computer you can also hover a column heading for its meaning.
Options
- Leave out of stats ("Keep the session, drop it from all stats."), or Count in stats again once it is left out.
- Delete this session ("Removes the session and its shots for good."). Click it, then click again within 3 seconds to delete. You land on Rounds.
If a save fails you see "Could not save that." with Try again, and the session is unchanged.
Share shows once the session has 5 or more shots with launch monitor numbers. It is hidden with fewer, and in the demo. It stays on a left-out session and while you are still playing (the card is the shots so far). On a shared sim it shares the player you have picked, with their own usual. The button is busy for a moment while your usual is read.
It opens Share this session. Pick Wide, Square or Story, then Copy link, Share… (on a phone that can share images) or Copy image, and Download PNG. Once published, the link shows with Published. Pasting it in Discord, Facebook or Reddit unfurls it into the card.
The card shows:
- "Range session · Mike" (your first name), Home sim, and the date with the shot and club count ("Oct 5, 2026 · 60 shots · 5 clubs").
- One headline, the first of these that applies:
- Personal best: "New longest 7 iron: 163 yd carry", when a club's best full swing today beats every earlier carry with it (you need 20 earlier full swings with that club).
- Gain over time: "7 iron carry up 6 yd on your 90-day average", from 10 full swings today, at least 5 yd, and passing the same rule as vs your usual. Not for wedges.
- Fixed today: with club data only, a slice or hook whose face to path went from 3.0 degrees or more in the first half of your swings with a club to 1.5 or less in the second half, a drop of 2 degrees or more. Each half needs 10 swings with a face to path.
- Tight group: 9 of 10 shots with a club inside a small circle (6% of its carry, or 4% of carry alone when left and right is worked out from the ball's flight).
- Shot of the day: your longest carry.
- Your shots from above, a color per club, with each club's 2 of 3 ring.
- Up to three numbers: Longest carry (unless it is the headline), Top ball speed, and Best smash with club data or else Tightest cluster.
- Carry by club: each club with 3 or more swings, longest first (up to 7), with the gap between neighbors. With one club, its carry range and average.
- A GSCaddie found line when a ball flight, path or face pattern shows up over 10 or more swings with one club, with a drill. See Fault detection.
- gscaddie.com at the foot.
The card's Longest carry can be a little lower than the page's: the card leaves out suspect bounces and shots that are not full swings.
On a phone
Everything is in one column: the head card, the bands, Session by club, the club bar, Where they finished, How the session went, bests, shape, pace, then the shots. Session by club becomes two-line rows: the club and its carry, then the shot count and the vs your usual words, then one line of facts ("±6.8 spread, Reliable 75, 3 R, ±9 wide, Fade 62%, Top 118.4 mph"). Turned sideways it becomes two columns.
When there is nothing to show
- No shots in this session: nothing came through. You can delete it from Options.
- No launch monitor numbers: the shots are listed, but there is nothing to average, so Session by club says so and the cards that need numbers are not shown.
- Could not load this session: check your connection and press Try again. Nothing was lost.
- This session isn't on your account: it was deleted, or the link belongs to someone else.
