Distance and flight

How far the ball went, how it got there, and where it ended up. The important nuance is carry: your launch monitor reports a carry number, but GSCaddie usually shows a derived one instead, because the raw launch monitor carry under-reports on full swings.

What GSCaddie tracks

WhatTypeWhere fromHow GSCaddie uses it
Raw carryyardsLaunch monitorThe launch monitor's own carry figure. Tends to under-report on full swings, so GSCaddie uses derived carry for display and analytics.
Derived carryyardsComputedTotal distance minus roll when both are available. This is what the dashboard, club averages, and gapping all use.
Total distanceyardsGSProCarry plus roll, taken from where the ball came to rest in GSPro. Drives driving distance and longest-drive records.
RollfeetGSPro or computedHow far the ball travelled after it first landed. Reported directly by your sim when it sends that number, otherwise calculated from where the ball landed and where it came to rest.
Offline (side)yardsPortal syncLanding-side offset, signed (positive is right, negative is left). Requires a Portal sync.
Lateral offsetyardsComputedWhere the ball finished left or right of aim, modeled from the flight simulation. Powers the dispersion plot and miss-bias split. A shot within 5 yards of aim is treated as on-line and left out of the left/right split.
Descent angledegreesPortal syncHow steeply the ball came down at landing. Feeds per-club trajectory stats in Club Detail.
Peak heightyardsPortal syncThe apex of the shot's flight. Feeds per-club trajectory stats in Club Detail.
Distance to pinyardsGSProHow far the ball came to rest from the hole. The key input to strokes gained and approach proximity.

Good to know. Raw carry from tops and thin shots often reads as zero and is treated as missing rather than real. Derived carry and lateral offset are modeled from ball-flight data, not direct measurements. Descent angle and peak height are only available after a Portal sync.

For ball speed, spin, and launch angle, see ball and launch data. For why some shots have their distance filtered out, see excluded shots and data quality.
