Derived round metrics
Most numbers on your dashboard are not stored directly. GSCaddie computes them from raw shot data every time a page loads. This article explains how the main round-level metrics are built. Strokes gained has its own article.
What GSCaddie tracks
| What | Type | Where from | How GSCaddie uses it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dispersion (lateral offset) | yards, signed | Computed | Where each shot finished left or right of aim, modeled from the flight simulation. When spin data is missing, a simpler geometric estimate is used instead. Powers the per-club dispersion plot and miss-bias split. Shots within 5 yards of aim are treated as on-line and excluded from the left/right split. |
| Typical carry per club | yards | Computed | Derived from your bag profile averages. Used to infer which club hit an unlabeled shot and to draw the gapping chart. |
| Fairway hit | yes/no per hole | Computed | Only applies on par 4s and par 5s. The tee shot counts as a fairway hit when it came to rest on the fairway. Requires per-shot surface data. |
| Green in regulation | yes/no per hole | Computed | True when you reached the green in par minus 2 strokes or fewer. Requires per-shot surface data. |
| Scrambling | yes/no per hole | Computed | A save: you missed the green in regulation but still scored par or better. Only counted on holes where GIR was missed and the hole fully finished. |
| Strokes per hole | count | Computed | The highest-numbered stroke on the hole among real shots. Handles GSPro bookkeeping rows and duplicate entries without inflating the count. |
| To-par | strokes vs. par | Computed | Sum over genuinely finished holes of strokes minus par. Holes still in progress contribute nothing, so live to-par can lag the scorecard until the final putt lands. An excluded shot still counts as a stroke. |
| Carry and ball speed averages | yards / mph | Computed | Averaged per club category (irons and wedges separately, never mixed). Uses derived carry, not raw launch monitor carry. Driving distance uses total distance on par 4 and par 5 tee shots. |
Good to know. Fairways hit, greens in regulation, and scrambling all rely on per-shot surface data. Rounds imported from your GSPro Portal history before you installed GSCaddie do not have that lie data, so GSCaddie falls back to the portal's own round-level fairway and green totals for those rounds. Scrambling is left blank for imported rounds rather than guessed.
